President ‘Tux’ Vasquez Says Chamber Still Awaits a Response

Arturo ‘Tux’ Vasquez

The Chamber has called for transparency, accountability, adherence to the rule of law, and good governance and says that while these may be trivial in political calculations, they are important to Belize’s social and economic wellbeing.  The letter written to the prime minister, says Vasquez, remains unanswered.

Arturo ‘Tux’ Vasquez, President, BCCI

“As we speak today, I have not had a formal response to that letter.  So, ever since then we have been putting our position forward.  We have written press releases, we have written letters to the prime minister, we have been on the media mainly saying some very clear points: one, we are not against the Petrocaribe.  As he says in his commercials, we will be a fool not to accept a one percent, anybody would.  We would never say not to do it, we are not against the initiative.  We are just saying what I think everybody is saying, we want transparency and accountability.  There already exists an act to handle a loan like this, why write another one?  And that’s where we sat, that’s basically where we are with all of this.”

Isani Cayetano

“Now, if I’m not mistaken, the prime minister in an interview with the media following the house meeting on Friday said that basically he will not be entertaining any other criticism or positions…”

Arturo ‘Tux’ Vasquez

“Well, I think only solution indeed.”

The Chamber says it remains committed to public-private dialogue on all issues that impact the nation’s development.
