Vicente Says Gold Cup Accounting Coming Soon

Vicente insists that the almost five hundred thousand dollars used between the First and Second Rounds was finances solely by the F.F.B., with no assistance from the public or from the Government of Belize. The truth is that what lies ahead where public assistance is concerned hinges largely on the clarification of a dark cloud looming over the F.F.B. – specifically how monies in the form of public assistance were spent during the Gold Cup. Up to this point, the F.F.B. has been unable to reconcile monies received with monies spent, but Vicente says that the cloud will soon be dispelled, since their financial expert is almost done with a comprehensive audit.

Ruperto Vicente, President, Football Federation of Belize

“Our Finance Director is presently working on that report and that should be out very shortly. He has indicated to me that he has almost completed it. So there will be a report on that Gold Cup financing.”

Mike Rudon

“Has he indicated to you if there is anything at this moment that the Executive should be concerned about that might be coming out of that report?”

“Not really! He has not made that kind of report to me. But I am waiting for a complete report. Once I get that then we’re going to make it public. He has gotten most of the documents. The bank statements, he has gotten those. The only things that he has not been able to get are the documents which justify the spending. We have not been able to get those. But the statements from the bank, we have gotten those.”

Mike Rudon

“And that will be made public?”

Ruperto Vicente

“Certainly! We have to make it public. It’s public money. We have to make it public. I had declared before that we have to account to the public. We need to account to the public. We need to tell the public how the monies were spent. I am not saying that money was spent otherwise but all monies were spent on the National Team. One of the things that will come out clear is that the monies were spent on the National Team and nothing else.”
