Lord’s Bank Man Riddled by Bullets

Raphael Martinez

A twenty-eight year old man is tonight clinging to life at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital after he was shot multiple times to the body on Tuesday night. Just before nine p.m., Jorge Caceres was gunned down while he was hanging out at a house in the village of Lord’s Bank in the Belize District. Police report that Caceres was inside the house when someone came knocking, but some residents say that the shooter kicked the door before an altercation ensued with Caceres. The two men ended up outside where Caceres was shot multiple times to the neck, arms and foot; his bullet-riddled body was discovered face down ten feet off the street.  He was rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where he is currently in a very critical state. His family is fearing the worse and today, News Five spoke with Police Press Officer, Raphael Martinez about the incident that seems to be one of gang rivalry.

Raphael Martinez, Police Press Officer

“Police responded to reports of a shooting incident in the village of Lord’s Bank. When they arrived at that location at a house at number 151 Lord’s Bank, just a few feet away they saw twenty-eight year old Jorge Caceres lying on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds. Initial investigations reveal that Caceres was socializing at that residence when somebody apparently knocked on the front door. He opened it and the person and Caceres got involved in an altercation in which shots were fired and Caceres received his injuries. As a matter of fact, he received injuries to the neck, arms and feet. Caceres was transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where he remains in a critical condition. The Ladyville police are following up on a lead, as a matter of fact; they are seeking a person of interest for questioning and of course identification.”

“But has someone been detained?”

Raphael Martinez

“Someone has not been detained as yet. but police, based on initial investigations, the person has been identified to them and they are seeking that person at this point.”

Andrea Polanco

“Are you able to talk to us about the nature of that altercation? Was it a personal issue?”

Raphael Martinez

“From the initial investigations again, it seems to be a personal issue and it seems again that the persons are not from that village, not from Lord’s Bank.”

“We understand that they are from George Street.”

Raphael Martinez

“We cannot confirm that as yet. Yes, Caceres was the intended target.”

“Has Caceres related exactly what happened that night to police; detail by detail?”

Raphael Martinez

“Well not necessarily, not necessarily; what the police are getting so far are from some of the persons who were in the area, socializing as well. So I do hope that very soon we will be getting to the bottom of this and try to solve this latest shooting incident.”
