Devon Bailey, Justin Lemott and Jason Sanchez to Stand Trial in Supreme Court

Devon Bailey

A trio of Belize City men has been committed to stand trial for murder and attempted murder in the Supreme Court, following a preliminary inquiry earlier today.  The first to be heard was the case of Devon Bailey, who is being accused of trying to kill thirty-one-year-old Charles Hines and Eldon Solomon in August 2014.  It is reported that both men were walking along Elston Kerr Street when a gunman opened fire, grazing Hines on the top of the head and injuring Solomon in the back.  Bailey appeared unrepresented earlier today before Chief Magistrate Anne Marie Smith and made a submission on his own behalf.  Bailey requested that the charge against him be dismissed since Hines has indicated that he won’t be pursuing further action against him.

A memorandum from the DPP’s Office however, requested that the charges remain as the matter is now a case of the state versus Bailey.  With that the matter was sent up to the October session of the Supreme Court.  The second case to be heard in PI was that of Justin Lemott.  Lemott, a resident of Hattieville is accused of fatally stabbing seventeen-year-old Richard Waight Junior.  The incident occurred on April fourth, 2014.  Chief Magistrate Anne Marie Smith has also committed that case to the October session of the Supreme Court.  The third matter was that of Jason Sanchez who has been charged for the shooting death of Emerson Arnold.  Arnold was gunned down on November twenty-eighth, 2014.  The cases of Bailey, Lemott and Sanchez will be called up at the October session of the Supreme Court, set to begin on October sixth.
