Belize is Second Slowest in Broadband Internet Speed in the Caribbean

A report on fixed Internet broadband speeds and pricing across the Caribbean shows that Belize has consistently remained as head of the class as it relates to pricing but in respect of speed, it is the second slowest. Nineteen countries were surveyed for the 2015 findings by the ICT Pulse – International issues from a Caribbean Perspective.  The data was obtained from the Belize Telemedia website and the review focused on the monthly rates payable for the specified Internet plans. The 2015 results show that in thirteen of the nineteen countries surveyed, the lowest download speeds offered is two megabytes per second and under. Internet Service Providers in Belize, Aruba and Guyana are still offering download speeds of two hundred and fifty-six kilobytes per second. On the other side of the spectrum, sixteen countries offer broadband packages with a maximum advertised download speed of at least eight megabytes per second.  But in such countries as Curacao, Grenada, Jamaica, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and Trinidad and Tobago, download speeds as high as one hundred megabytes per second. In Barbados and the Cayman Islands, plans for as much as three hundred megabytes and over are being offered. Turning to prices, the lowest was recorded in Trinidad and Tobago, at twenty-two U.S. dollars and fifteen cents, followed by Grenada, and Curacao. Now the highest price for a two-megabyte plan is as much as sixty-nine US dollars and forty-nine cents in Belize.  The fastest plan was found in Barbados, where providers are offering it for fifty U.S. dollars per month with a download speed of up to fifty megabytes per second. But the slowest plans are offered in Antigua and Barbuda and Belize.

AND FOR SO MUCH COMMERCIAL THEY DO WITH FREE INSTALLATION AND SO AND SO. WE’RE A THIRD WORLD COUNTRY BUT COME ON BTL. YOUR SUCKING FROM US AND NOT GIVING THE QUALITY WE ARE PAYING FOR.

A paradigm shift has occurred over the last 5 years concerning consumers and there use of broadband connections in Belize. The old dynamic was that a consumer connected a PC or laptop and mainly downloaded content from the internet, such activity relied on asynchronous connectivity in favour of download bandwidth. That dynamic has changed drastically with connectivity much more reliant on upload bandwidth speeds for multiple devices PC, laptop, tablet, smart phone, watch, TV etc. As a tourism destination Belize cannot be relegated to third world status when it comes to our access to broadband.

    BTL internet sucks.
Not only the internet service but the telephone service. Calls are so expensive, and know they say they give double up, but its only to thieve the poor people that want to save a bit from tx or calls.

Their service is not even protected, as cell phones still receive unknown international calls, which thief the credit.

The worst part is that companies have been hacked with thousands and they still want the companies to pay hacked calls, when its obvious is their system not working for the people.

It we the people that keep alive the business. So reconsider you actions.
