Father’s Day Cheer Gets Ramos in Hot Water!

.U.P. Dangriga Area Representative Ivan Ramos recently requested monies from government as part of the Father’s Day Cheer.  The request for twenty-five thousand dollars to be distributed among his constituents flies in the face of a principled position taken by the party that the unaccounted use of the Petrocaribe funds is unlawful.  Equally, the PUP firmly believes that the monies should not be used for Christmas, Mother’s Day or Father’s Day Cheers.  Instead, the party contends that it should be used for meaningful programs to alleviate poverty.  So, Ramos’ endorsement of the controversial program, as well as his subsequent request and acceptance of the monies are viewed as anti-establishment.  Today, we asked Deputy Party Leader Julius Espat if Ramos should be disciplined.

Julius Espat, Deputy Party Leader, P.U.P.

“I really can’t speak for Ivan Ramos, we have been colleagues and we have had a very good relationship. I can tell you the principles that I stand for and I believe that we shouldn’t accept it. The party has given strict advice that we shouldn’t and why we shouldn’t. But those moneys should not be used from the onset for those types of programs, Ivan along with myself understand that we have people suffering in our constituency. We have clinics that are not operational. We have a serious crime wave and our children can’t finish school because they can’t pay for their report cards and definitely their moms will be having problems even sending them back to school. So there are serious issues we are facing and we should not be wasting the people’s money on party but we need stand strong in what we believe but I can’t speak for Ivan Ramos.”

Ramos will not be offering himself for candidacy in the upcoming general elections.  He has stepped aside to allow political newcomer Anthony Sabal to replace him in the constituency.
