Roaring Creek Family Waylaid, Wife Killed in Fatal Attack

Rosalie Galvez

The other murder victim is a Camalote resident who was killed after a lone-gunman fired several bullets at the vehicle she was travelling in around five thirty on Sunday evening. Rosalie Galvez, her common-law husband and her two sons were heading home after a family outing in More Tomorrow. Galvez never made it home. Today there are more questions than answers for the family that has lost others to gun violence. Andrea Polanco spoke with the family:

Andrea Polanco, Reporting

Who killed forty three year old, mother of three Rosalie Galvez and why? Galvez was traveling in this black Toyota truck on Sunday evening when she was fatally shot to the head. She was sitting in the passenger seat of the vehicle driven at the time by her common-law husband Russell Hyde.

Russell Hyde, Common-law Husband

Russell Hyde

“Upon reaching the curve before Guanacaste Park, one gunman come out and fired shots and it hit my wife. I pick up more speed and I took her to the hospital and I took her to the hospital and shortly after I reach…emm.”

Charles Galvez, Brother of the deceased

“I knew right away, looking at her seeing her I knew she wouldn’t have made it. I know that the doctors and the nurses at the hospital tried their best. I saw what they were doing in the emergency room. I am very much appreciative of their efforts and she succumbed shortly after. She didn’t even get an opportunity to get into the ambulance as it was a serious injury because of the shots.”

Andrea Polanco

“So, when you saw her, it was critical, she was gasping..?”

Charles Galvez

Charles Galvez

“Yes she was gasping and with the oxygen mask on her face already but her eyes were opened but seemed to have been brain dead already, in my opinion, since it was a head injury. She was profusely bleeding from the parking area going into the hospital there was a lotta blood on the tiles on the floor.”

One person is dead. So far no one has been arrested for the crime. A blood stained seat and a bullet riddled truck are what’s left behind. From the outside it appears as a murder well planned and executed. But was it? Speculations are that the bullets were meant for Hyde.

Russell Hyde

“I can’t say if dah fi me but the angle weh deh come pahn, deh nuh come pahn my side. Maybe it could be me. Maybe it could be she. But deh fire deh shot and deh kill somebody. Hopefully, deh could ketch up with the killa and let the police man do their job because I don’t have no job. I just want to peace. And let them to do their job. I don’t want to get involve. I will leave it to the almighty.”

Andrea Polanco

“And you guys didn’t get any threats? Any message?”

Russell Hyde

“Basically, I nuh get no threats. Nothing suh. That’s about it. I neva expect.”

Andrea Polanco

“Do you think they were waiting for you guys there? Someone must have known that you guys were passing by? I mean dah like deh lay wait unu?”

Russell Hyde

“I feel like somebody call from the entertainment spot and tell them I am leaving nuh.”

Andrea Polanco

“You guys didn’t see; I understand your sons were in the back of the truck. You guys didn’t see who the person was; I mean a description, anything?”

Russell Hyde

“Well, we get wah slight lee thing. Nothing really just wah slight lee glimpse.”

Andrea Polanco

“The way it was carried out, it seems they were lay-waited; it was orchestrated you’d say?”

Charles Galvez

“Certainly. The timing was too perfect to not have been orchestrated or well planned. So, I would say that it was something well put together. When I say well put together, whoever was involved in this, they planned it. It was an ambush.”

Echoing the sentiments of the reports, Galvez says his sister was never a troubled person but, as it would it appear, perhaps she was a victim by relation:

Charles Galvez

“From what we have heard, from what the street is saying, she was probably not the intended target, but from probably the environment she lived in is what created it and she became a casualty of other people’s war. I say thanks to the people at the Western Regional. I call on the police to get to the bottom of this because this is a sister, a mother, a daughter. She had three kids. Her two younger kids were in the back of the truck and witnessed everything.”

Galvez says he doesn’t have much hope that the killer will be found:

Charles Galvez

“Based on the history of the crimes and violence that has been taking place in Belize on a whole, I have very little confidence in us getting justice in this case, especially because we are a law abiding family; God fearing people,.  But because of the history of the crime and violence, I have very little. I ask the police department to prove me wrong and get to the bottom of this.”

Galvez says that the doctors and staff of the Western Regional Hospital provided excellent service and must be commended for doing everything in their power to try and save his sister’s life. He noted, however, that while his sister was critical and there wasn’t much that could have been done, that there wasn’t an ambulance at the Western Regional Hospital and that one had to be sent from somewhere in the  San Ignacio area.

Thank you Dean Barrow, your leadership is clear. You, Hulse, Penner, Contrerass, Castro, and your whole pack is rabid. Cut your deal with Guats and they will pay you well.
