Near-Fatal Traffic Mishap on Phillip Goldson Results in Multiple Injuries

A near-fatal road traffic accident on Sunday evening, has left several persons critically injured.  The men were traveling along the Phillip Goldson Highway in a grey Toyota pickup in the direction of Ladyville when a blowout caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle.  The pickup careened off the side of the road, flipping over and coming to rest on the side of an adjacent fence.  Passengers, including those seated in the rear, were violently flung from the pan of the vehicle, causing various degrees of injuries.  While no fatalities have been recorded, the victims are receiving treatment at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital.

“There was a second incident that I want to mention and that incident occurred on Sunday as well, this time about five-thirty.  Police responded to a road traffic accident in the area of miles thirteen and fourteen on the Phillip Goldson Highway and when they arrived at that location they saw a grey Toyota pickup truck on its side overturned.  Several persons were on the scene with varied degrees of injuries.  Initial investigations revealed that the driver, Cedric Avilez, was heading towards Belize City and upon reaching at this area he experienced a blowout.  As a result he lost control of his vehicle and overturned and several of his passengers who were riding in the back of the pickup truck received injuries.  So far, we have not received any information regarding fatalities but, as I mentioned earlier, they had varied degrees of injuries and were taken to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital for treatment.”

The accident occurred during the height of the commute from Crooked Tree following the weekend’s Cashew Fest activities.
