Matura-Shepherd Lashes Out at N.T.U.C.B. Past President

Dylan Reneau

The Petrocaribe Bill 2015, and peripheral issues arising from its implementation, continues to feature prominently in the news. Just about everybody is speaking up on the controversial bill passed just recently. We start tonight’s Petrocaribe coverage with escalating tensions between the N.T.U.C.B.’s second Vice-President, Audrey Matura and immediate past President Dylan Reneau. Over the weekend an email surfaced in which Reneau rebukes Matura over her call for the termination of Senator Ray Davis, and also defends the Petrocaribe Bill. Matura is known to give as good or better than she gets, and today told News Five that it’s a pity that things have gotten so personal. She also says that she feels that the email was deliberately leaked and timed to coincide with a General Council meeting of the N.T.U.C.B.

“Whatever I have said I’ve said it publicly. I’ve said it in my own personal capacity. I’ve not said it so that N.T.U.C.B. is tarnished. I’m entitled to my own personal view. Clearly they want to circle the wagons around me but they picked the wrong person because they have skeletons in their closet and I don’t have any. But I chose not to make this a public battle and continue it as a public battle because that’s what they want. They want to distract me as the messenger that is dealing with the fact that we have a Petrocaribe Loan Act. Clearly my brother who is in the P.S.U., Mr. Dylan, who went silent on the N.T.U.C.B. when we needed him most…and I have texts to prove when I asked him outright if he had sold out. I don’t have to be the one to release all of that like they do. But clearly he went silent and now he is vocal about legislation – maybe what he’s saying is his personal view because he’s still a member of the General Council of the N.T.U.C.B. and I’m sure he’s not speaking as the N.T.U.C.B. nor am I when I speak. I’ve said what’s my personal position. The N.T.U.C.B. has given their press release on their position. But he breaks his silence to support legislation that seeks to put ministers of government and public officers above the law.  I never leaked anything to you all and you know that. Channel Seven knows very well who has been leaking information to them and Channel Seven has their own agenda.”

“Let me ask you this straight up. Do you think Mr. Reneau has his own agenda other than protecting Senator Ray Davis as he said?”

Audrey Matura-Shepherd

“I think you have to ask Mr. Reneau that, but anybody looking in from the outside can see clearly that there is a strategic course of action which they can seek to pursue. For me, I won’t be trapped into any of them. I remain very open, very firm in my position and very focused on what I have to say about anything – not only on the voting, but on the essence of it.”
