Tanya Carter Wins Music Award in California

Belizean artist Tanya Carter is making her mark in the music industry. Over the weekend, she won the People’s Choice Award for Best Belizean Artist of the Year at the International Red Carpet Affair held annually in California. Carter was attending the event where she performed with Lova Boy. While there was word that she was nominated for the musical award, the announcement came as a surprise to Carter. News Five spoke to her via Skype today where Carter says the win is just a motivation for the work to continue.

“I was very surprised. I went to the fifth annual International Red Carpet Affair to just show my support and to be a special guest in Lova Boy’s performance because he was one of the performers. And I just went to show some support and especially being from Belize and you know you had Sam Hamilton there, Daddy Tracey and Calypso Rose. And you know they kinda catch me off guard. I had no idea I was going to win; I knew I was a nominee, but I didn’t know that I was going to win. So they tricked me a little bit telling me that I was going to be a presenter. I was like that’s weird and it turns out that I won the award and get to bring it back home to Belize.”

“What does it say to the work that you’ve been doing all these years and finally getting out there; taking home these international awards and knowing that your work is paying off?”

Tanya Carter

“Yeah, to me, it means that we have a lot more to do and it means that I can’t stop now. So it is definitely an extra fuel in the fire because with me and my team—team Carter, I call them—we tend to base on what we did last year and this award just shows that I’ve been working. We can’t make no award slow wi down. It should be a catapult into my career. So we just try to see each award to try to humble we and try to realize that the work that we have been putting in is being noticed and we have to do more. And so that’s how we take awards and I am very grateful to them to even nominate me for it. it is always a blessing to be nominated.”

According to Carter, there is lot more in store for her career, including several tracks with some Jamaican artists and some exciting news that will be revealed shortly.
