F.F.B. President Says Striker Begins Training on Monday

Ruperto Vicente

Now that McCauley is back in the country, F.F.B. President, Ruperto Vicente, says that the ball is in his court and he must now show and prove in the days ahead.

Isani Cayetano

“What’s to happen going forward?  He’s here in Belize, have you been able to have an informal conversation with him coming back home?”

Ruperto Vicente, President, Football Federation of Belize

“Certainly, I spoke to Deon in Miami and I asked him if he was ready to report to camp and he said he is going to be reporting to camp on Monday.  So it is good.  It is a welcoming news that he will finally report to camp because it is important that every member of our national team reports to camp and prepare practice for our national team games.”

“What are your thoughts on the initiative by fans of the Belize Jaguars to raise funds to bring him back to Belize City?”

Ruperto Vicente

“Certainly it is a good gesture, you know, and I think because of the policy that we have in place because we are no longer doing business as usual in the Football Federation of Belize.  You know, Mr. McCauley coming back home to be a part of the national team is a welcoming thing.  As I’ve said before, we have always wanted him on the national team but our policy states that every player must report, you know, and he not reporting in the past, you know, caused him not to be on our national team against the Cayman Islands.  So now he has an opportunity to prove himself, you know, and to prove himself to the coaches that he is worthy and that he should be on the national team.  So it is a good thing for us.”

Earlier today, the Association of Belizeans Concerned with Bringing Deon McCauley Home issued a release thanking everyone for their pledges.  ABCBD further stated that the gesture to accept a return ticket from F.F.B. executive Reynaldo Malic was a token to ease the tension between all parties involved.  Lastly, ABCBD says that the overall initiative isn’t to undermine the national team program or members of the Belize Jaguars as each player is as important as the other.

  1. CEO says:

This is all very well and good and the efforts of those who stepped forward and spearhead this movement and those that contributed should be commended. I am sorry to say but the reality is that we still do not have anyone with a brain at the top of the FFB.

here is why I think so:
    1) He should have been on the roster from the get go. This crap about each player needs to show up to camp in Deon’s case is crap. For Christ’s sake he is a footballer and workouts every dam day so he is in shape; yes he needs to show up to get back in the groove of the team but Vicente still seem to not understand that star players get breaks that the others do not get and every player understands this. The team needs him he does not need the team so you make accommodations to attract them.

    2) As more Belizeans become international players this concept that someone at the top will get eventually and amend their little line in their requirements about all players need to show for camp. If a player has international obligations how on earth can he show up for your camp like everyone else. Every team I know make accommodations for star players. Star players command a larger salary!!!!! This is nothing new to the sport world!

    3) Whats this BS about him “proving himself”? Are you that forgetful that you do not remember what he has done for the country? 17 goals Fool he has proven himself in Belize and in the US! I am sorry to be this direct but is irks the hell out of me to listen to these BS comments! Thank God this man has not gotten big headed and told you go to hell. Maybe after he has been snubbed he will tell you to go to hell but so far it seems that he has not been snubbed enough yet and he still has love of country at heart.

    4) Your budget should have included a line item to bring Deon home to play every time there is an important game! Like I said it is honorable but why the public had to take it on themselves and do this? This only proves my point that there is no one with a brain on top the hill!

I am glad Deon came home to play but I know it could have been handled in a way better manner than it was! Leaders should be a medium of change and improvement not a conduit to stagnate and obfuscate!

By the way a wheel only has one hub but it has many spokes and each part has a certain level of importance but we can lose several spoke and still keep rolling but if there is no hub we can never advance!

None of the players are being undermined in the sport world every team has star players and they get more playing time and more money and no one minds because winning is the most important on every team and the other players understand that they need to play around him for them to advance.
