“Well I am very impressed by the Belize Federation of Fishers and the presentation that they made to their membership. They are well organized and they articulated clearly what they are interested in achieving and it is very clear from the questions that I got that there are issues that are of priority and concerns to the fisher that the Fisheries Department is trying to address and will soon be taken up to cabinet for a decision, especially in regards to manage access. It is very clear from the discussion that the fishers from these various associations believe in manage access and they believe that it help to address many of the challenges that they face. One of the areas that was brought up that is of concern to them and concern to the ministry is overall enforcement which is prohibitively expensive and so the ministry along with other partners is looking at low cost technology to address that because that is going to be a layer that is going to be necessary for manage access to work. But we have already identified that and we have already kinda spoken to partners in how we are going to try to address that.”

The AGM also featured the launch of a documentary entitled, “the Life of a Fisherman.”
