There was a broad daylight murder on Saturday morning on Mayflower Street in the heart of the Ghost Town gang area. Forty year old Edward Usher was inside his yard in familiar territory when he was shot multiple times to the head and body. “Ghost,” as he was affectionately known, was approached by an assailant armed with a nine millimeter handgun, who entered the gate to the fenced yard and opened fire on him.

Supt. Hilberto Romero, Head, CIB, Eastern Division

“Around 9:20 a.m., police responded to a shooting incident at the Mayflower Area, upon arrival police found one Edward Usher with multiple gunshot wounds to the body and the head. The information we have is that one gunman entered the yard, approached the deceased, Edward Usher, and fired several shots at him.”

Supt. Hilberto Romero

“At the time, there were not many persons there. I know there are three houses in that general vicinity and at some point Usher was in that yard when a lone gunman entered that yard and fired a shot.”

The alleged shooter, eighteen year old Percival Pilgrim was detained shortly after the incident occurred. Today, he was arraigned for the murder of Usher.

Supt. Hilberto Romero

“Quick police response led to the detention of Percival Pilgrim eighteen years of a Logwood Street address, who was in the area. Thorough investigation was conducted into that murder and we have now charged Percival Pilgrim for the crime of murder.”

Reporter

“We have information that three other persons were also detained in connection with this murder and that they were in that yard at the time. Can you talk to us about that?”

Supt. Hilberto Romero

“Well we detained several persons; several persons were also interviewed and at the conclusion of that investigation, we have now laid these charges.”

But what could have been the motive behind the murder of Usher since he was allegedly killed by someone he knew?

Supt. Hilberto Romero

“We don’t have an exact motive. I know we are still doing our investigation in that area. The information we are gathering is that there was some rivalry between these persons in that area that led to the shooting.”

Reporter

“Gang personnel?”

Supt. Hilberto Romero

“Well personnel from that Mayflower area.”

Percival Pilgrim

Reporter

“Sir can you talk to us about Mister Pilgrim? Was he detained with any weapons?”

Supt. Hilberto Romero

“He was not found with any weapon.”

Reporter

“Sir, Mister Usher, is he a known gang affiliate of Mayflower?”

Supt. Hilberto Romero

“Yes he hangs out in that general area of Mayflower. He has been charged before for robberies, burglaries and possession of firearm.”
