Businessman Busted With Over US $100K

Scott Harnish

American Businessman and owner of the Palapa Bar in San Pedro, Scott Harnish, was busted with over one hundred thousand U.S dollars in his home. On Tuesday, April seventh, it is reported that authorities visited Harnish’s home on the north end of San Pedro when they made the discovery. Harnish was detained and released that same day, and no charges were levied. Today, San Pedro Police confirmed that they did conduct a search at the said residence and a large sum of U.S. cash was found. They say they have since handed the case over to the Financial Intelligence Unit. News Five was unable to reach the Director of the FIU, Eric Eusey, for comment.

So, Belizeans who know law here goes a couple questions, Is it against the law to keep a substantial amount of money in your home. Can the police enter your home without a warrant and or a court’s order remove property which includes money if there is no proof that the money is and will be used to buy drugs, weapons or anything illegal. Is the gov’t of belize gonna be held responsible for the police to execute searches like this when being sued for no less than 2.7 million dollars for wrongful detention of a legit businessman?

  2. cayo says:

    So What!
He is a businessman. Are people not allowed to have money now!

    What BS!
Just another bunch of thieves, digging in the peoples pocket.

  3. middleClassMan says:

So what is the crime? Having a lot of money?

  4. Ricky Malthus says:

Is it illegal to have cash in Belize? The police and FIU need to study and understand the law lest they stupidly enforce such laws.

  5. Kay says:

Money is power! The government does not enjoy and won’t encourage ANY Belizean (or foreigner for that matter) to have that much power over their own affairs. If one has no money he will forever be dependent on the government for hand-outs.
Misers no longer have any justification for saving money for a “rainy day”. Belize laws can be messed up some times.

Avoiding paying his taxes that’s what he’s doing. Some people don’t use their heads. I bet all of you if not all of you are Americans, simple defending your kind. I am a working Belizean who pays my taxes and i say to you, go home and drink a reality pill and grow up. Stupid menatlities as well as questions. What else would someone be doing with that amount of cash is not illegal stuff, come on people.
