FIFA Says Return of Deon McCauley is Smart Money

Deon McCaulay

While the Belize Jaguars is among seven other teams that have moved up in the World Cup Qualifiers, having scored one goal against the Caymans, there is uncertainty as to the ability of the team to stay in the competition. There is one factor over which everyone is mulling: Deon McCauley and will he be included in the national team?  A post in FIFA’s online magazine also raises the question. The magazine writes that one of the big surprises of the first round was the omission of McCauley, who as you know, plays with the Atlanta Silverbacks. The magazine points out that he finished the Brazil 2014 qualifiers as top scorer worldwide, ahead of even superstars like Luis Suarez and Robin van Persie.  The online publication also says that it is hard to see into the future, but the smart money is on a recall for free-scoring McCauley in the next round.

  1. Media says:

I will be so upset if he doesnt play in the next round. This was political mischief! He could have topped that record again possibly, had they given him a fair chance in the first 2 goals.

  2. De says:

Politics! This is the overzealous politician flexing his muscle. This is why I hate to see politicians inserting themselves into sports. They are just destroying it as they come with their political, I am King, attitude. John Saldivar is responsible for his omission. Spite! But all he is doing is spiting the country, like he cares, however, the world can see.

  3. Keep it real says:

WOW! You guys are comparing Deon to these world class Strikers . A guy who sat on the pine ,and got cut by the B devision team Silverbacks. Yes I agree he is the best in Belize football standards ,but come on.To call him super striker and act like he is a world class player, really. I think the Belize fans should raise their expectaions and demand better. Don’t be miss lead by Ruperto. The team is still the same limited team. Ask for them to have a quality youth development program and Belize will have a Pro team to compete in the future. Al we hear is promises from the federation and the same amateur footballers. The talent is there and it needs to be nurtured.

  4. CEO says:

So who is the bone head that is in charge of the roster for the Belizean team?

It should have been a no brainer but only in Belize would the best we have be overlooked and left off the national team roster.

I understand that Charlie gave an interview said he said he did not know Deon wanted to play on the Belize team and his father should have told them that. To be real this is the dumbest response I may ever hear from a coach; any coach! It’s you freekin job to field the best team possible! You pick up the damn phone and invite him to play…! You think? After all it’s only his country; the country of his birth and he maybe; just maybe he have national pride and would be more than happy and proud to represent the country of his birth on the big stage!
