Superintendent Luis Castellanos is transferred from San Pedro

Luis Castellanos

There will be changes in command of the police department. News Five has been informed that in early April an announcement will be made by the Commissioner of Police of replacement and transfer of officers at the various police formations across the country. We are told that Superintendent Dennis Arnold, who is currently in command in Orange Walk, will move north to replace Superintendent Andrew Ramirez, who will reportedly be transferred to San Ignacio. Ramirez is to replace Superintendent Dinsdale Thompson, who has been commander at that western formation for just over seven months. Arnold’s deputy, Assistant Superintendent Selvyn Tillett, News Five understands, will move up to Commander of the Orange Walk Police Formation. But there will also be some changes Belize City, says Deputy Officer Commanding the Eastern Division, Senior Superintendent Edward Broaster. While he was not able to disclose what those changes are, Broaster confirmed that for some time now, Superintendent Luis Castellanos has been removed as the Commander in San Pedro.

Sr. Supt. Edward Broaster, Deputy Officer Commanding, Eastern Division

“Mister Castellanos has been reposted from San Pedro, yes and in the interim, Assistant Superintendent of Police Henry Jemmott is holding over. I have been temporarily reposted in San Pedro as well. We’ve been doing quite a bit of work in San Pedro to ensure that we keep it tranquil and peaceful and safe.”

Duane Moody

“Sir, Mister Castellanos….why was he removed. We know that in the past few weeks, there has been an increase in the criminal activities happening there—several murders, shootings…threats made against political figures in that area. Is his removal as a consequence of this?”

Edward Broaster

Sr. Supt. Edward Broaster

“No, Mister Castellanos’ removal from San Pedro has nothing to do with that. Mister Castellanos, as a matter of fact, has just finished an FBI course in Quantico, Virginia and his expertise will be utilized elsewhere.”

Duane Moody

“Any other changes in the Eastern Division sir?”

Sr. Supt. Edward Broaster

“I cannot say. I know that there will be some transfers come April or maybe a little later down the road, but the Commissioner of Police will be addressing those matters.”
