Say What? No Deon McCauley on Belize National Football Team!

T

Via Phone: Deon McCauley

he National Football Team was announced about three weeks ago and one name was noticeably missing. Belize’s star striker, Deon McCauley, was not listed as one of the members of the team and he said he hasn’t been named to the list of players who will be playing in the World Cup qualifying games. McCauley, who is in the U.S, called us today to clarify what he says are inaccurate statements made by the F.F.B. The footballer said that he is very disappointed about not making the team. We asked him why he didn’t make the list of players on the road to the World Cup 2018…

“Well, everybody in the Federation is saying that I am hurt and I am not going to be able to make the upcoming world cup games in Russia World Cup 2018 next week and I want everybody to know that is not true and not even the case. I am recovered. I did a sports hernia surgery, November 18ths 2014. It seems they think I will be injured for the rest of my life, from something minor like that. They are saying that they have asked to meet with me in November, which is another lie because nobody have contacted me from the Federation.”

Why do you think you’re not on the list?”

“Well, I have no idea. I am really trying to find out what is the issue because I feel like it is a big disrespect to me and the entire country of Belize. The type of experience that I have and the caliber of player that I am, scoring so many goals for my country and putting Belize on the map world-wide. I want to know what is the issue and why I didn’t even get a call for the national team.”

“Do you think that the way you’re being treated by the Federation right now, in terms of not getting a call and being considered for the team; do you think this is maybe a direct result of the circumstances under which you left the country to play internationally?”

“Well, I don’t know. Probably it is. I don’t know and I guess that may be a reason why. As I know, John Saldivar is involved with the national team and I was on his team when I left last year. So, I don’t know what kind of revenge game this is. It’s not even about me. It is about the country and about representing well in the World Cup Qualifying and taking our status to another level. I just really don’t know what it is.”

We will be seeking a response from the F.F.B. in Friday night’s newscast.

I can’t possibly imagine a football squad representing the Jewel without a healthy and fit Deon McCauley. What are they thinking? This star athlete holds the record as scoring the most goals, not only nationally but internationally, in the last qualifier he represented the country in.
But I regress. This is what happens when politics get involved in sports or anything else for that matter. It happens every time, just like clockwork…..”they always come and Muck it up!”

  2. Belizean Pride says:

mein what a sad situation well peeps I’m not going to watch the game, I’m boycotting the game in protest. When will our jaguars grow to be a team of respect when the leaders in charge play politics that cause these type of things. That’s why we never reach a international level. Well i’m aint going to the game.

As the Former Coach of The Belize National Team, first of all I have to say that I know Hon. John Saldival for a while now, becuase I was the Coach of the Belmopan Bandits( Back to Back Champion of Belize and also Coach of he National Team 2013 Thah Clasiffied to the Gold Cup and 2014 Uncaf with a Outstanding Performance) and I can say that Mr. Saldivar is not a person that will keep up Gripes nor hard feeling towards no one, dont care how bad He feels about something, He will always let go, and put His principles in front, that is wy I can but my hands in the fire for Him.

With Deon case I think that the Management of the National Team did not handle that matter in the proper way, becuase this is not about texting, They should act in a Professional way, by sending a invitation Letter to Mr. Mc. Caully, to show Him the respect He deserves. Before I leave I gave the The Federation a sample of how that should invite Players. Deon and all the Players and The Clubs deserves respect.
