2 Persons Charged for Separate Murders in the City

A teenager is on remand tonight at the Belize Central Prison after being arraigned for the murder of twenty-one-year-old Ian “Uno” Adolphus last Wednesday.  This morning, eighteen-year-old Akeem Kirklin Trapp appeared before Chief Magistrate Anne Marie Smith where he was indicted on a count of murder.  His mother, who declined an on-camera interview, maintains that Trapp is innocent of the charge.  Adolphus was shot multiple times to the right elbow, right shoulder and left side of the chest, as he was walking along Freedom Street on the morning of February twenty-fifth.  This afternoon, Superintendent Hilberto gave an update on apprehensions related to recent murders in Belize City.

“I have some updates in regards to the murder of Ian Adolphus that occurred on the twenty-fifth of February. One Akeem Trapp was charged for that murder, the muyrder of Ian Adolphus. As well as for the murder of Michael Welch, one Tarique Gillett has been charged for that murder. And Deshawn Gough has always been charged for the shooting incident of the female that was shot in the San Pedrito area of San Pedro on the eleventh of February twenty-fifteen.”

Meanwhile, eighteen-year-old Tarique Gillett has been charged with the murder of Michael Welch who was shot and killed on Sunday night as he stood in front of a yard on Periwinkle Street.  Gillett appeared unrepresented before Magistrate Herbert Panton today where he was read four counts of murder, attempted murder, dangerous harm and use of deadly means of harm.  He has been remanded to the Belize Central Prison until April seventeenth.
