…President Moses Sulph Responds to Allegations

Moses Sulph

We contacted the President of the Belize Boxing Federation, Moses Sulph, to comment on the state of the executive. He says that it boils down to a few people not willing to follow the rules. Rules, he says, that must be adhered to if the Federation wants to remain a member of the International Boxing Association.

Moses Sulph, President, Belize Boxing Federation

“Mr. Martinez was indeed a member of the federation; in fact, he was a member of the executive. Mr Martinez was very much aware of all the procedures we have to follow. I want to reiterate that we are a federation that is affiliated with AIBA and all the rules and guidelines that all the federations in one hundred and fifty-sixcountries follows, are handed down by AIBA and we cannot come up with your own rules and guidelines or anything that is contrary to their rules and guidelines. Mr Martinez was informed that he has to comply or the federation was in jeopardy of being disqualified by IBA. They have decided that they want to beyond the federation. They went out to have events in Mexico and it clearly states that you cannot be associated with any professional boxing federation that is not under the national federation and that is what Mr Martinez did. He went out took some boxers and they competed in a pro bout which is totally prohibited by IBA regulations and guidelines. Mr. Martinez, who is the brother of the Minister Martinez; I believe he thinks that this Federation is going to be run like how government run and if that is the kind of leadership he wants, then I am sorry for him, but at no time, under my leadership, along with my members, the vice president Mr. Tucker and other members of this federation, will we tolerate anything that is going to no time will we tolerate anything that is going to jeopardize us losing our affiliation to IBA.”

Sulph says that the concern for development of athletes and coaches has been raised and they have been working towards providing greater opportunities. He says that a national team will be selected on March thirteen and fourteen, but athletes and coaches who wish to be a part must be registered with the federation. It is also expected that two boxing coaches will be going abroad to pursue training.
