Reserve Land Ends Up in the Hands of a City Hall Secretary

According to Andrews, building on the reserve contravenes a section of the RECONDEV Act which deals with green spaces.  Failure to address the matter, says Andrews, will result in the filing of an injunction at the Supreme Court.

Patrick Andrews, P.U.P. Standard Bearer, Belmopan

“It is from my own investigation, yes it is, the approval needs to come from the city council but then the Central Building Authority also has a responsibility to ensure that procedures aren’t violated and the RECONDEV Act Section Twelve clearly talks about green spaces in Belmopan.  And I want to say that for the residents of Belmopan, one of the things that they treasure, one of the things that they take pride in is the fact that Belmopan was a planned city, all the parks and green spaces.  That’s what makes Belmopan, Belmopan.  That’s what attracts people to want to come to Belmopan and if we continue to give away our green spaces and build on our parks, man we’ll have a chaotic city and I don’t think anybody wants Belmopan to become like that.”

“So now obviously the construction continues despite lodging your concerns.  What’s the next step that you can do or that anyone can do to see this removed from that vicinity?”

Patrick Andrews

“Well I’ve gotten many calls from senior residents of Belmopan and not only P.U.P.s or U.D.P.s because both, again I told you that the first person that brought this to my attention was a U.D.P. from the council that called me, that even before the construction started, about this, you know.  But we are hoping that the Central Building Authority puts a stop order to this because it’s a violation of the RECONDEV Act in Belmopan and also you cannot put a commercial building on a designated green space.”
