Foundation to be Instituted in Memory of Fallen Officer

Danny Conorquie

Danny Conorquie was twenty years old when he was shot and killed whilst on duty at the Caracol Archaeological Site last year. The killing of the special constable, who was assigned to the Tourism Police Unit, sparked outrage when it was widely reported that Guatemalans may have been responsible for his death. While no one has been charged for the man who was killed in the line of duty, his family has been working behind the scenes undertaking activities to remember the fallen soldier. Jean Conorquie, Danny’s mother, told News Five that they are considering starting a small foundation in her son’s honour. One of the more immediate plans is to host an all day event on Sunday, February twenty-second to commemorate Danny’s birthday; he was turning twenty-one on February twenty fourth.

“We will have all kinds of activities. Food and drinks on sale; lime and spoon, sack race and we will start off with a bicycle race and we will have football games and lots of other sports activities for that day.”

Andrea Polanco

“Alright. Where are all these activities taking place?”

“In the village of Georgeville where he born and grow; on the football field. It will start from ten a.m. to six p.m. from Sunday the twenty-second.”

Andrea Polanco

“Okay. The proceeds from this day, what are you guys going to use it for? Is it to build a little monument?”

Jean Conorquie

“Yes, ma’am that is the first idea. We want to build a monument for Danny because people are still calling in and ask what village Danny is from and everything. So we decide to come up with this idea. So we decide to build a monument with both faces on each side with the date of birth and everything with the village where he come from. We are deciding to put it in the police area if we can get the okay from whoever needs to give it; because that is where Danny started from the Cadet coming up until the passing of his life.”

If you want more details about the event and would like to contribute towards the monument, you can call 665-8374 or 624-1026.
