Darrell Aspires to Central Government

Darrell Bradley

But this evening, we caught up with Belize City Mayor Darrell Bradley campaigning in the streets of Caribbean Shores where it is widely speculated that he will also be offering himself as candidate for area representative.  While U.D.P. colleague Santiago Castillo Junior says he will be returning for a second term as area representative, Bradley was not as forthcoming in his response to the question of his candidacy.  In his tried and true skill of beating around the bush, Bradley told us this afternoon that although he aspires toward a seat in central government he is not yet looking at Caribbean Shores.

“It’s interesting that you would mention Caribbean Shores constituency.  There are speculations that you will also be contending that particular area or contesting, sorry, that particular area against minister or area representative Santiago Castillo Junior.”

Darrell Bradley, Belize City Mayor

“Well I will say this that my primary focus is on being an effective mayor, even now since we are only one month away from demitting office in this first term.  We’re still working on projects to try to see if we can continue to do more for residents.  So at this present moment I am one hundred percent concerned with being an effective mayor going into a new municipal term with increased vigor and able to deliver more and to discharge more of our functions, continue with the great infrastructure [works] that we are doing. I have made no secret of the fact that my aspiration is to go to higher office so that while I am not saying that anytime soon I will be in any campaign for national government it has always been my hope to make city council not the final elected position that I hold.  So while at this present moment we are one hundred percent into city hall, we are campaigning vigorously and we are finalizing our manifesto which will launch our plans for the next three years.”

On the P.U.P. side, attorney Kareem Musa is the standard bearer for Caribbean Shores.
