B.E.L.’s Golden Citizen Program in Full Effect

B.E.L.’s Golden Citizens Electricity Bill Pay Award is growing by leaps and bounds. The initiative started with fifty persons two years ago. Today another group of senior citizens will not have to worry about paying their light bills for the rest of this year.  Andrea Polanco headed to the B.E.L.’s headquarters in Belize City for the happy occasion.

Twenty Senior Citizens were today recognized with the “B.E.L. Golden Citizens Electricity Bill Pay Award.” The awardees join over two hundred more who are a part of the program, whose electricity bills will be covered for one year. Celina Gill, B.E.L.’s Customer Care Manager, says program has grown tremendously since its inception.

“These honored golden are however represent only a portion of the two hundred and twenty-five golden citizens countrywide who have been randomly selected for this gift. This is the third consecutive year in which B.E.L. is paying golden citizens electricity bills for one year.  This benefit being awarded is for electricity used for residential purposes only and is being applied towards electricity used during the period January first 2015 through December thirty-first, 2015. While the benefit is awarded on a yearly basis, recipients are not limited to benefitting for only one year. Included in this year’s two hundred and twenty-five awardees are eighty-nine who were selected in 2014. This is because, again, they were randomly selected and maintained the conditions of these criteria.”

For Golden Citizens, Kathleen Taibo and Alvin Bennett, the electricity bill pay award comes at a right time. They were happy and grateful.

B.E.L is establishing a third category, the Lifetime awardees, who will receive permanent award.  The recipients selected for this program will be citizens who require extra ordinary assistance due to disabilities or are dependent on life support systems that use electricity. Reporting for News Five, I am Andrea Polanco.

To qualify for the program, the awardees must be sixty five years of older, registered with B.E.L. as a golden citizen and hold one residential account using sixty kilowatt hour per month.
