Aragon Versus Carballo – Who Will Win Orange Walk East?

Elodio Aragon Jr.

The P.U.P. convention for the Orange Walk East division was held over the weekend, and when the votes were counted, Josue Carballo had edged out Dave Burgos by twelve votes. Carballo will replace P.U.P. Area Representative, Doctor Marco Tulio Mendez, who stepped down for medical reasons. He will now face the Elodio Aragon Junior, the U.D.P.’s caretaker in the area. Today, News Five spoke to Aragon and asked for a reaction to the convention outcome.

“There’s no major reaction to that news. Definitely the P.U.P. had to get a new candidate after the demise of Mr. Tulio Mendez, so definitely I know that a convention had to be held for the P.U.P., and I am glad to know now who is running for the PUP, because definitely at the end of the day we have to have an election for general election and it’s always good to know who will be running against you. But definitely I keep focus on what is important for Orange Walk East, and that is my concern…for the people, for the service and for my community, and that is my concern. And therefore I am glad to know that we now have a P.U.P. candidate that I will be contesting.”

“If you had your way who would you have chosen? Would you have had a favourite, so to speak, out of Dave Burgos or Josue Carballo?”

“The truth of the matter is it doesn’t matter who won the convention. The matter of fact is that every party must have a convention to elect a candidate. In my personal regard it doesn’t matter who won that convention. As I’ve always said to the people of Orange Walk East, I am here for them to work very hard, and at the end of the day I do believe that the people of Orange Walk East will make the right decision in terms of electing the right representative to serve them and their communities. And with that, I always believe that the work that you do will speak for itself.”
