Is the Impact of the P.U.P.’s Cayo North Loss Seismic?

Francis Fonseca

And what’s the morale of the P.U.P. following Monday’s devastating loss at the polls?  According to Fonseca, while there is disappointment, the party is preparing to move ahead and that the impact of the loss will only be felt in the Cayo North constituency.

Francis Fonseca, Party Leader, P.U.P.

“If it has an impact it certainly will have an impact in the Cayo area, in the San Ignacio area.  As you know, I think polling area seventy-three, for the most part, is San Ignacio, a large part of San Ignacio.  Obviously, that is a wakeup call for San Ignacio team.  There is a lot of work to do if they want to be competitive and win in San Ignacio but I don’t think it will have an impact outside of that.  I think yes people are feeling down and disappointed, even though people knew that the odds were stacked against us but I think our people in the PUP understand the circumstances of this bye-election and they understand that that’s exactly what it was, a bye-election in Cayo North caused by the sudden resignation of Joseph Mahmud and they will be prepared as many had told me last night and this morning, let’s move on.  We have to move on to the next battle.  Let’s keep our spirits high, let’s stay focused and live to fight another day.”

Later in the newscast, the P.U.P. leader talks about its financial status.

    Editor,
“Is the Impact of the PUP’s loss in Cayo North Seismic?” is not a good headline. Don’t even plant the word “Seismic” in the minds of your viewers and readers, for they will take it and run with it. The following morning they will be sipping whiskey and be like, “Bwai, da defeat deh seismic !!”

Seriously, you really need to double down on efforts to assist the PUP to become the next government of this country. Learn to use language to your advantage. Listen, people are intelligent, it’s the masses that are dumb. EVERY single vote counts and so every single word you print counts and every singe word your journalists utter counts. These seemingly insignificant bits, in the end, have a significant cumulative effect. Don’t you have meetings about things like this?

Recently Open Your Eyes Keith was on his show praising the current prime minister for standing up to the USA. This kind of lapse is just plain careless.

There is too much at stake.
