Ensfield Reyes sentenced to eighteen months in prison
A Belize City businessman, who back in April 2013 assaulted his wife with his licensed firearm, was found guilty of one count of Aggravated Assault with a Firearm upon Bernadette Reyes. The incident occurred at the couple’s King Street house where they lived at the time. Ensfield Reyes, who was unrepresented, was found guilty on Monday before the Chief Magistrate and sentenced to eighteen months imprisonment. On April thirteenth, 2013, Bernadette testified that she was home, when she and Ensfield got into an altercation because he did not want her to leave the house. When she insisted on going out, she claims, he pulled out his licensed nine millimeter pistol, fired a shot in her direction and then he pointed the gun at her. In his defense, Ensfield denied assaulting his wife with his gun. In a sworn testimony he told the court that his firearm accidentally went off when the shot was fired. His wife testified of her near death ordeal saying that after the gun gone off, he pointed it at her and ordered her to get back into the house. So tonight, Ensfield is beginning his prison term of eighteen months behind bars.
