Castro Visa Case Still in Pre-trial

Anthony Sylvester

The case of Edmond Castro versus the visa scandal whistleblower got underway in February of 2014. In 2013, Castro was accused of facilitating visas for Chinese nationals by Alvarine Burgess. She claimed that she delivered money to Castro, who then sent the paperwork to the Immigration Department to be fast-tracked. Castro sued, and since then the matter has been tied up in a legal tangle. 2014 is almost done, and the case hasn’t even gone to trial yet. Today both parties were in Court for a further pre-trial review. And since nothing concrete has happened yet, neither party’s attorneys have been willing to talk to the media.

Anthony Sylvester, Attorney for Alvarine Burgess

“We’ll speak about it on the next occasion.

No at this juncture we will reserve comment until the first of December. The adjournment is the first of December. We will continue what started this morning. There was initially a trial window set for the third and fourth of February next year so we’ll see.”

As you heard, the trial is tentatively scheduled to get underway in February 2015, more than one year after the matter was first brought to court.
