Yaya Protests Inhumane Conditions at Queen Street PD

Yaya Marin

When last we heard from activist, Yaya Marin Coleman, she was protesting solo in front of the U.S. Embassy in Belmopan for awarding a contract to a Guatemalan company to construct a forward operating base at Hunting Caye. This morning, Yaya was at it again today…this time, she took on the cause on behalf of detainees who are in lock down at the Queen Street Police Station. Yaya finds the conditions filthy and inadequate.

Yaya Marin, Activist

“Many of the holding cells are small in size and poorly ventilated so sometimes the stench of the urine that we smell, am told in the Queen Street Police station. The women have a bathroom at times it may not be working and police officers don’t roam often enough to check the cells, or if someone will call out to use the bathroom they may not be taken to the bathroom immediately. In the case of the cell that holds the men, the urinal is in the same space and sometime people will still urine on the floor and so it comes back to the police officers ensure that the space is built to house the number of people they keep there and to ensure that the bathroom facilities are built for those people as well as to ensure that officers are roaming the space consistently so that if people want to use the bathroom they get a chance to do it. It also means that when Belizean people are held in those cells we have a responsibility to use the bathroom once it had been refurbished and is provided for us, as far as hygiene. It has happened for so long that we have accepted the colloquial name of “piss house” for the holding cells in particular.”

Yaya says she will protest every Thursday on behalf of the detainees.

How come it’s the WOMEN, (Yaya and Audrey) that’s leading the charge single handed, against all the oppressive and inhumane conditions visited upon mostly the male elements in the country?
I think it is high time they man up and get from behind Audrey and Yaya’s frock tail and address the issues that appears to be castrating them, and reducing them to wussies.
What!!…..ALL, our young black men good for, is to be shooting and killing each other?

Maximum respect to Yaya and Audrey!!

Thank you Louisville, Ky… it is a sad dat for Belizean males as the only person in Belize that has the balls to stand up for equal rights and justice is a woman. I say equal rights because the powers that be don’t care about issues like this because they have become such God’s over the ordinary people that they would never suffer the indignities that we the lesser people have to endure. We need to wake up and realize that for all the bs that they want you to believe about equality in society some people (the 1 percenters) are more equal than others.

Why should we pity the criminals. They only stay for a short time in prison so let them suffer some of the same treatment they give out to their victims. IF you need a cause let it be our medical and health care system for the poor!
