Caracol Reopens on Monday

It has been a month since the horrible execution of Danny Conorquie at the Caracol Archaeological Site. The murder triggered the closing of the site to visitors, both local and foreign. A week ago, a Belize delegation met with Guatemalan counterparts and signed off on a twelve point agreement. Chief among the points agreed is direct collaboration in respect of all security concerns, including coordinated operations among security agencies to combat illegal activities and transnational crime. With security being beefed up at the site, NICH announced today that it will be reopening Caracol this coming Monday. That will surely be welcome news to tour operators, who have been lamenting the closure of the site. The new protocol is that B.D.F. will escort visitors from the Douglas D’Silva Forest station at nine in the mornings to the site and then depart from the site for the D’Silva station at two in the afternoon.

When did the BDF become Tour Guides???????????????????????
If the situation is that bad keep it closed. Let the BDF do their job of protecting the country and securing our BORDERS. whatever that is!

So basically nothing has changed. The same ineffective BDF escort will be used as was first initiated back in 2007. The object should be to secure the road NOT scare visitors with unprofessional military escorts. When will they ever learn? Hopefully, this time, they will provide proper training, equipment, and supervision for the security and police that are being assigned to the site. From experience, I sincerely have my doubts.

I keep saying the only way I repeat the only way to secure our borders is to mine the whole border post signs warning everyone and if they get blown up so be it when is this country going to wake up March people.
