Another P.U.P. Candidate Departs the Big Blue Tent

Said Musa

Earlier this week, it was announced that P.U.P. Cayo North Area Representative Joseph Mahmud will not be seeking reelection in 2017.  While Mahmud has cited personal reasons for not contesting his seat in the next general elections, his departure from electoral politics will leave a void in the western caucus where the People’s United Party has been gaining ground.  On Thursday, P.U.P. standard bearer Micah Goodin, who was set to challenge Patrick Faber in the Collet constituency, also announced his withdrawal from the political race.  With the sudden exit of Mahmud and Goodin, there is speculation about the strength of the opposition party as it prepares for upcoming elections.  This afternoon, former party leader, Said Musa, reaffirmed his confidence that the P.U.P. will emerge victorious at the national polls in 2017.

Said Musa, Former Party Leader, P.U.P.

“Well these are decisions taken by individuals concerned.  The People’s United Party has been gaining strength, going from strength to strength and I have no doubt that we will form the next government if the present trend continues and if we continue our work because the key to winning elections is not just to get on television and hold press conferences.  The key to political success for any political party is really to have the pulse of the people and to ensure that you carry out the basic human needs of the people.  So I have no doubt that because our party is fundamentally committed to social justice and the people are aware of this there will be a change coming next election.”

With the departure of Goodin from the political arena, the division is left open for other P.U.P. aspirants.
