Three Kings, a film capturing the essence and spirit of 3 extraordinary, cultural icons

Katia Paradis produced and directed the film, Three Kings, capturing the essence and spirit of three extraordinary men and cultural icons: Paul Nabor, Wilfred Peters and Florencio Mes.  Mes is now the only surviving King. With the passing of Nabi, as he is known, Paradis has this to say: “Paul Nabor makes a profound impression on everyone who meets him for the first time, whether they would live three blocks away from him or come from the other side of the ocean.  His charisma and his Garifuna melodies filled with melancholy were powerful enough to reach everyone, me included.  I always saw him as a bridge builder: between musicians, between cultures, between races. He was extremely curious of others cultural backgrounds and at the same time, very proud of his, and I think that was his “secret weapon” to touch hearts. He had that power of strengthening anyone’s sense of identity, no matter what that specific identity was, if we were Garinagu, half Garinagu or not Garinagu at all, teaching us to embrace deeply what we were. I thank him for that, for being a Belizean cultural bridge builder.”  Tonight we bring you clips of Nabor as he appeared in the Three Kings.
