Beenie Man Says Love & Respect Only…No Hate

Beenie Man

But according to UNIBAM’s Attorney, Lisa Shoman, there is precedent for the action being taken against Beenie Man, whose real name is Anthony Davis, and she’s right. Beenie Man and several other reggae artists were actually banned from the UK in early 2000 due to the content of the music and were unable to participate in the Rototom Sunsplash, an annual European reggae festival. Now…controversial lyrics are okay to a point, but when appearances and concerts are cancelled, then it becomes a real problem. So much so, apparently, that in 2012 Beenie Man went on record to state that he’s all about respect and love – no violence, no hate and no discrimination.

Beenie Man, Jamaican Artist

“Let me make this clear and straight. I have nothing against no one. I respect each and every human being, regardless of which race or creed, regardless of which religious belief you believe in, and regardless of which sexual preference you are, including gay and lesbian people. I respect all human beings and I’m just begging all one to respect each and everyone because we are human being; this is what we do. Do not fight against me for a song that I sang twenty years ago. No one in the world is the same person as how they was twenty years ago; me know I am not. I was a kid and I come from one house and one community; I neva know what the world was like and what the world was about. Now I know that people live in the world that live their life differently than the way I live my life. I still have to respect and love human beings. So please, I’m begging you, do not have me for songs that I wrote, some old songs long time. Please just love the music and respect the music. I love and respect each and everyone and I am just begging each and everyone to just do the same.”

So for now, promoters say that the Bobby Chin Birthday Bash featuring the Grammy-winning Jamaican Reggae artist will proceed as planned on October eighteenth at Cahal Pech Resort.
