Senator Mark Lizarraga Demands Accountability

Mark Lizarraga

Business senator Mark Lizarraga, in his presentation, expressed concern over the request for ten million dollars in additional capital, since there is not yet a detailed breakdown of how the initial twenty million dollar startup has been disbursed.  The complaint, says Lizarraga, has been heeded by fellow Senator Joy Grant, the minister whose responsibility encompasses the function of the National Bank.

Mark Lizarraga, Senator, Business Sector

“There was a ten million dollar loan for the recapitalization of the National Bank of Belize.  We are very disappointed once again that the three motions that dealt with money being committed and expended on behalf of the Belizean people came to us with very little or no explanations and we continue to say that for us to support these money bills, we need to have some documentation showing what the monies will be used for or how the monies have been used.”

Mike Rudon

“Where would you say the breakdown is coming in because we’ve heard this concern before and I’m sure you have expressed this concern to those, to the clerk and other persons in the senate?”

Mark Lizarraga

“I’m absolutely not sure, I think in the past the Leader of Government Business, the honorable Godwin Hulse has promised us that he is going to look after this, the clerk has promised us that he is going to look after this.  The clerk has promised us that he will try and do whatever he can to facilitate us.  You heard Minister Grant acknowledge and accept that our request was valid and she has promised to send the documents to us.  But that aside, it is something that should happen on a regular basis.  How can you come to this honorable house and expect us to approve the disbursements of forty-two million dollars today with very little or no explanation.  That’s ridiculous.”

The National Bank of Belize celebrated its first anniversary one week ago and has to date disbursed a majority of the initial funds set aside for loans.

I do think that senator is right. But i have a more major concern, that senator Lizarraga has also been on the same side on done the same things that the current guys are doing. So it is just the side that changes and Belizean are not given a fair explanation. I think this is what we call a hypocracy of hyprocracy, when u use a different ruler to measure others than what u use to measure yourself. The Private sector in this country knows what i am taking about.
