Weekend Weather Forecast for Carnival Road March

The highly anticipated Carnival Road March takes place this Saturday. This year the parade kicks off at Caesar Ridge Road at one o’clock. This station will be bringing you coverage of the road march from start to finish. Our first team will be stationed at the Mahogany Street roundabout across from Fair Brothers Pawn Shop where William Neal and co-host Safiyyah Muhammed will be commentating on the spectacular road march. Our second team with Duane Moody will be picking up coverage as the road march makes it way on Princess Margaret Drive and winds down at the B.T.L. Park. The annual J’Ouvert and the carnival parade are less than twenty-four hours away and concerns are being raised by spectators about the weekend weather.  After all, it has been raining incessantly since the beginning of the week.  While a few showers can be expected on Saturday morning, the National Meteorological Service is forecasting that shower activities should be significantly less, especially in Belize City.  This afternoon, we spoke with forecaster Ronald Gordon who explains that there will be a tropical wave passing over the country on Sunday.

Ronald Gordon, Forecaster, National Meteorological Service

“For this weekend we are expecting a few showers on Saturday.  Moisture will remain relatively high over the region and then on Sunday we are expecting a tropical wave and an increase in showers and thunderstorms, you know.”

“In terms of the spread across Belize for Saturday, with regards to the Carnival Road March, you’re saying that there will be intermittent showers?”

Ronald Gordon

“No.  For Saturday, we are expecting showers and thunderstorms to be mostly in the south during the morning and in the afternoon shower activities will be mostly inland and in the north.  Also in the morning we can expect showers along the coast also.”

“In terms of Belize City, is there anything that can be said in regards to either carnival-goers or what participants can expect of the weather?”

Ronald Gordon

“Okay, let me put it this way.  If you compare the weather that we had this morning, for tomorrow, Saturday, we are expecting less activity.  So even though we are expecting some showers, a few showers and thunderstorms it won’t be as bad as we had this morning.”

Isani Cayetano

“And in terms of Sunday?”

Ronald Gordon

“On Sunday, there is going to be an increase in activity, especially in the afternoon.  We are expecting a tropical wave to cross the country and as such it will bring an increase in showers and thunderstorms probably after midday, towards the evening time.”

Earlier today, the Carnival Committee released the areas of judging. The first spot is in front of the Leaf Monument Roundabout on intersections of Cemetery Road and Central American Boulevard for Junior Bands. Senior Bands will be judged in front of the Leo Bradley Library on Princess Margaret Drive. So don’t miss out on all the splendor and revelry of the 2014 Road March.
