Douglas Hyde Outlines Police Departments New PR Strategy

Where the media is concerned, we are assured that using the new method information-gathering will be streamlined and much more efficient. All queries will be made to the new unit, which will then pass it on if they have it, or get it if they don’t. All requests for interviews on any particular story will be channelled to the person best suited in that particular area…in a timely manner we are told. And to make it all sound better, Hyde says that Police Officers who deal with the media will receive additional training in giving proper interviews.

“One of the duties of CPR is that we’re going to do a lot of in-house training and capacity building for our Police Officers and persons who work within the Police Department on a whole. Very importantly we are in the process right now of identifying Police Officers from each precinct in the next couple of weeks to participate in training in public relations and also in terms of interviewing skills and stuff like that, which is very important for information dissemination to the general public when it comes to media interviews. So yes we are looking at that. We are in the process right now of planning in the next couple of weeks to train our Police Officers and likewise staff on a while in the areas of interviewing skills and media information and stuff like that.”
