Eastern Division Gets Made Over

Douglas Hyde

The Eastern Division is getting a new look and new feel, the brainchild of Commander Dezerie Phillips. It’s all about changing the perception of the Police Department, making it more people friendly, more community-oriented and more accessible. It includes some spring cleaning, some painting and much needed sprucing up…but much more important than that – it includes an improvement in the skills and attitude of the front line officers who deal with the public on a daily basis.

Douglas Hyde, Public Relations Coordinator, Eastern Division

“The Public Relations Unit itself was tasked likewise to look at building a better atmosphere especially when it comes to our first point of contact with the general public, our front desk. So that was the idea to renovate it and develop it in a way that it’s no longer that traditional Police look. It’s going to look like a people friendly place that you go in. And of course the services that we provide will definitely be on a higher level of being professional. The persons who will work at the front desk now will be properly trained in public relations and other areas where we see the services need to be better provided through that front desk.”

Assistant Commissioner of Police Dezerie Phillips has been Commander of the Eastern Division since July. She had previously served as Deputy commander of that Division.
