Jermaine Michael Rhaburn Re-arrested for Murder of BDF Volunteer

Jermaine Michael Rhaburn

On Monday, October first, 2012, a young B.D.F. volunteer soldier, Clifford Isaac Cruz was killed on the compound of Militia Hall located near the Lord Ridge Cemetery in Belize City. After more than a year on remand, the man accused of his murder walked in April of this year. But today, five months later, a directive coming from the D.P.P. Office instructed police to re-arrest and charge twenty-year-old Jermaine Michael Rhaburn for the murder.  Late this evening, Rhaburn was escorted by CIB personnel to the courtroom of Chief Magistrate Anne Marie Smith where he was once again read the single charge of murder. No plea was taken from Rhaburn, who was unrepresented and he was remanded to the Belize Central Prison until October twenty-second.  Chief Magistrate Smith noted that the record show that the charge had been struck out without reason. Following the arraignment, Rhaburn’s mother, Yvette Cadle, spoke to our court reporter saying that she is confused because her son was picked up from work this morning and brought back to court on the same charge back in 2012. Allegations are that Cruz was killed after Rhaburn, who was also a volunteer B.D.F. soldier, pulled the trigger of his service rifle.  This was the first such murder to occur on the compound of Militia Hall.
