Deshawn Craig Charged for Kept Firearm and Ammunition

Deshawn Craig

There was an attempted robbery on Monday morning at the Port of Belize. Police say two men tried to rob the establishment and that their investigations later led them to two suspects who were pursued in the Caesar Ridge Road area.  The men were said to be carrying a firearm. When the cops arrived in the Caesar Ridge area, they claim they caught a resident disposing of a bag into a neighbor’s yard which contained a gun loaded with six live rounds.  Thirty-five year old Deshawn Craig was allegedly found with a nine millimeter believed to have been used in the attempted robbery. He was arraigned this morning before Magistrate Herbert Panton for Kept Firearm and Ammunitions without a Gun License but not for attempted robbery.  In court, Craig pleaded not guilty and was remanded to the Belize Central Prison until October twenty-fourth, 2014. Before Craig’s arraignment, one of his relatives told our court reporter that her nephew was at home when two men ran into his yard and one of them threw an object into his yard.  She claimed that when Craig realized it was firearm, he threw it out and that’s when police arrived in the area. Craig is expected to be levied with other charges.
