MADISCO Employee Charged for Drug Trafficking

Kent Mendez

A Madisco employee was this morning convicted in the courtroom of Chief Magistrate Anne Marie Smith for drug trafficking. He is Kent Mendez, who was jointly charged with two of his relatives, his older brother, Kevin Mendez and cousin, Jason Lewis.   Allegations made by the Gang Suppression Unit are that on October seventeenth, 2013, they executed a search warrant at the home of Kent on Cleghorn Street where they found a zip lock plastic bag containing marijuana hidden in a suitcase belonging to Kent.  The drugs were weighed in at one hundred and eleven grams or three point nine ounces.  At the time of the discovery, all three accused men were present at the house, but denied having knowledge of the drugs. In making her decision, the Chief Magistrate only found Kent guilty of the charge since the weed was found in his room and in his suitcase.  She then told Kevin and Jason, that she found them not guilty of the offense of drug trafficking.  The Chief Magistrate fined Kent ten thousand dollars ordering him to pay five thousand dollars and the remaining amount by February twenty-seventh 2015 or face three years imprisonment.  Up until noon today, Kent was unable to pay and remained in police custody at the Queen Street Police Station.
