Trial Farm Resident Drowns Over the Weekend

There is another death to report. Forty-four year old Orange Walk resident Gregorio Medina was pulled out of the New River this afternoon. His decomposed body was spotted floating in the river on Sunday, and was left there under Police guard until a post-mortem examination could be conducted today. The Trial Farm resident was last seen by family members on Saturday morning, as he left to go spray some bush with friends. They said that as late as four that day they were told that he was at home drinking with four other men. While the state of the body suggests that he died on Saturday, Police are awaiting the results of the examination to determine the cause of death.

“Shortly after six-fifteen pm on yesterday’s date Police received information of a body floating in the river in the Trial Farm area of Orange Walk. Upon arrival in the Trial Farm area Police saw a body floating in the river. Upon closer examination of the body, it was revealed that it was partially decomposed in the face and shoulders. The body was later identified as that of Gregorio Medina of Orange Walk Town. The body is still awaiting a post-mortem examination as we speak but there were no visible signs of injuries.”

“We were at the football game yesterday, Sunday. We left from here about nine or nine-thirty soh. We were there and we saw three games. We were watching that last game – half of the game had already done – when my son received a text quick to come and identify a body that was in the river. So he told me and we came. When we reached there I saw the guy and it was him. He had on a black undershirt, a brown pants, short cargo pants and he was swollen. His mouth was…I saw something like fresh blood in his mouth.”

Late this evening, we received the results of the post mortem examination on Medina. It concludes that Medina died as a result of, and we quote – “moderate and advanced visceral general conception as a consequence of mild decomposition and chronic alcoholism,” end quote.
