Police Seek Suspect in Crooked Tree Home Invasion…

The harrowing experience of fighting for dear life in a desperate attempt to ward off a knife-wielding intruder is a memory that will forever remain etched in the consciousness of fifty-one year old Betty Westby and her family. On Wednesday night, someone she knew forcibly entered her Crooked Tree home and attempted to kill her during an aggravated burglary.  Betty, the wife of Pastor Maurice Westby, recognized her attacker as Tyrone Davis when his hood came off in a struggle with him.  In fact, Westby’s attacker had been hired by her husband during Easter to assist with the expansion of their wooden home and she saw to it that he was properly fed and hydrated while he worked in the sweltering heat.  So, the idea of someone she’s very much familiar with breaking into her home and violating her in such a revolting and unspeakable manner, before her helpless mother, Vilma Wade, and her fourteen year old son, is quite disturbing.  Despite Westby’s reality, as a woman of God, she tells News Five that she has forgiven her assailant who, tonight, is still on the run.

“Seeing as though your life, that of your mother and that of your son were under immediate threat and this was someone whom, eventually you found out, you are familiar with; given that particular situation do you see yourself going to an extreme in terms of either shooting at this young man or the other intruder to protect yourself and that of your family?”

“At this point, I was angry.  I was completely angry.  I was thinking, do what you want to me but my mother, eighty-two-years-old, you just crossed the line.  I was completely angry, I would have done anything.”

“Seeing as though you are active members of the church and you are people of God and you have been able to identify your intruder as someone who worked with your husband, from what I understand, this particular individual helped in the building of the extension of your home.  Are you prepared to forgive, seeing as though at some point this person will be apprehended and charges will be brought against him.  While the court takes care of the legal matter, are you prepared to forgive him for what could have happened or what he did last night?”

Betty Westby

“Totally.  Absolutely.  I laid down in my bed last night after, well this morning after everybody left and I said, “God, I forgive this young man.”  I truly forgive him.  The law will take its course but I forgive him.”

When we checked earlier with head of Ladyville Police Sub Formation, ASP Christopher Noble, whose jurisdiction includes Crooked Tree Village, he told News Five that they are actively seeking Davis.  It is believed that he is armed and dangerous since a rifle registered to Pastor Maurice Westby was reportedly stolen from the residence during the break-in. The firearm is a point twenty-two rifle with six rounds of ammunition.
