Imer Hernandez Gets Another Contract…$2 Million!

Dean Barrow

On Wednesday at his press conference, Prime Minister Dean Barrow boasted at length about the infrastructure projects being carried out across the country. He spoke about works in all districts, and made special mention of two projects in Orange Walk. One is the paving of the Phillip Goldson Highway running through the town itself. We understand that’s at a value of close to ten million dollars. The other project is the San Antonio Road – the infamous San Antonio Road – a two million dollar project. The nephew of Deputy Prime Minister Gaspar Vega got the contract for the first, and when the PM broke the news on Wednesday he didn’t provide any details. Here’s the PM from Wednesday, with the good news.

Prime Minister Dean Barrow

“In Orange Walk you know that the contract was signed and work had started on the resurfacing of the Phillip Goldson Highway throughout the entire length of Orange Walk Town which is I think in excess of four miles. We are doing it a mile at a time. But in addition we’ve now prepared and are about to sign the contract, if it hasn’t been done already, for the resurfacing of the very famous San Antonio Road. That’s a mile and a half or thereabouts, and we’re signing a contract of about two million dollars to do the San Antonio Road.”

Tonight, we can confirm that the two million dollar San Antonio Road Project was again given to Imer Hernandez, nephew of Deputy Prime Minister Gaspar Vega. That’s interesting, because Imer Hernandez was also paid to pave that very same road in 2012 – paid with government Smartsteam vouchers complete with certification from the Ministry of Works that the project was completed to their satisfaction. He never did the work, and that caused a big stink which was never really explained.

Patch workers and Money scam that’s what this is and will always be. They keep doing the same thing over and over expecting different results with the Roads.. the only results seen is in their home s and lifestyle improvement and A big fat bank account.

@Truth. That’s very true. After 6 to 9 months, they will return to work the Progresso-San Estevan Road, after all the work in the 4 miles they have worked will have deteriorated. The thousands $ spent will go to the drain. Everything will start over. They know how to play the game. That’s the same game that will be played in land’s ministry. Ask Vallejos to deny it!
