Lord Rhaburn To Be On Commonwealth Heritage Track…

Belizean cultural music made it today at an incredible sixteen-day pop-up festival celebrated at the River Clyde in Scotland where the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games are coming to an end. The final connections Heritage Track was submitted to the B.B.C. by attorney and jazz aficionado, Dolores Balderamos-Garcia. The two songs were “Budd Bank Wedding” by Lord Rhaburn and “Suddenly It Happens” by Herman Bennett and George Matthews, two of Rhaburn’s band members.  The selections were chosen to express the warmth and love felt in the jewel to give other Commonwealth nations a sense of the Belizean zest for life. The B.B.C.’s cultural celebration is running alongside the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games. Here’s is how Balderamos-Garcia explained her submissions.

Dolores Balderamos Garcia, Member of the House of Representatives
“The music I’ve chosen is from the Lord Rhaburn Combo and naturally the leader of the group is Lord Gerald Rhaburn, A very well know calyspsonian and probably the most foremost calypsonian  in Belize. I’ve chosen two pieces; Budd Bank Wedding, I believe that is quintessentially Belizean. It has a lovely bruk down rhythm. We call it bruk down because we can just sort of break away and dance and enjoy ourselves as Caribbean people and as Central American people.  What basically Gerald Rhaburn is saying in this song is that there was a wedding and everybody came out to have a wonderful time; there was drinking, there was rum, there was people drinking and people eating and dressed right up in lace, et. Belize is a very small country. At the moment our population is currently about three hundred and fifty thousand people and everybody knows everybody else and I believe that Lord Rhaburn was able to capture the joy of living here in Belize and just the great fun that we have when we get together as families.”
