Second Victim of Weekend Bloodbath Succumbs…

Honduran national Carlos Mayorga, a tacos vendor, was brutally killed at his house on Mopan Street. Three female assistants were also targeted in the gun violence that occurred early on Saturday morning. Today one of the victims, Alida Asencio, succumbed at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. Asencio was hit to the chest and abdomen…she lost a kidney and experienced organ failure before passing away around midday today. Prior to her death, Duane Moody spoke to family members and a friend on the hellish home invasion.

“Mister Carlos was bringing downstairs the icebox. He went back and I believe when they see him come down and went back up, they sneak back up through the backdoor. Two guys—one with gun, one with knife—they ask for money and they put three of them in the front room. They were asking for the money. Mister Carlos said yes, alright please, I am going to give you guys, but I don’t know where is the key. He was frightened. And he pulled a machete to wrench open the wooden thing he has the money in. they thought he was gonna use it, so they hit him in the head four times with the gun. He managed to wrench open the draw and give them the money. He gave them two thousand dollars and some small change. One of the guys looked at him and said that’s not enough.”

“The horrendous ordeal of a home invasion on a group of Honduran nationals on Saturday morning is still very much real in the minds of their loved ones. After two assailants opened fire on the group, fifty-two year old Carlos Mayorga died instantly from a bullet to the back of the neck. But Karina Avila, Alida Asencio, and Sijihan Avila were hit to various parts of the body and they are all being treated at the K.H.M.H. Asencio is currently in a critical condition.”

Asencio, the mother of an eight year old girl, is fighting for her life after she was hit to the abdomen and chest. Her sister says they fear that she will lose her fight to life.

“She is really bad. She is dying. The doctors are saying that she bled a lot and there is no hope that she will survive. There is so much violence here and my sister came here for a better life and I don’t know what happened.”

Voice of: Friend

“Miss Alida started to fret and she run. She ran to the next room and locked herself in there, a guy run in there and shub open the door. Because the door have no lock, he shub her off and conscious someone else was in the room, who was Karina. He tell them to march in the room, to go in there with the others and while they were in there, they hit Alida in the head and Karina in the head also. Alida get frightened and she jumped up and she got hit on her stomach. The bullet damaged her kidney, her liver, her pancreas and her intestines; they said she lost one of her kidneys. She is critical. She only has a sister here, no other relatives and she has an eight year old daughter in Guatemala City. The other person that got shot was Sijihan. She got a shot above her chest…just above her heart. It came out through her side, broke two of her robs and then the other bullet hit her arm.”

A family friend, who is also from Honduras, recounted the series of events saying that Karina’s condition is detriorating and that she is not breathing on her own.

Voice of: Friend

“Karina, she was the one who got the minor of the injuries. The bullet hit her arm, but it is lodged in her chest. The doctor says it didn’t touch anything serious, but they couldn’t take out the bullet. The impact make blood went into her lungs and she is breathing with a machine. Last night when I called to check on how the autopsy went and thing, they told me how karina is getting a little bit worse right now. Sijihan is the one who is stable right now. So we are hoping they all get through this because we don’t want anyone else to die; enough with one.”

For friends and families, the tragedy is also heartbreaking because the victims migrated to Belize for a safer and better life. Instead their lives are threatened in a country where they have worked hard to earn a living.

Voice of: Friend

“It is sad because Mister Carlos is a man with a big heart…quiet but at the same time very kind. He is a man with a big heart and they don’t steal from no one. They work hard for what they have and I believe they cheat him out of his life. It’s really sad to know that these guys out here have no heart, have no love. They don’t sit and think that they have mom, they have dad, they have sisters, they have kids. They don’t sit and think, they come and chance people. Get a job. Look how many jobs are out there? They want to find easy money and taking people’s life away. Two thousand dollars wasn’t worth Mister Carlos life. Everybody in the neighborhood now is fretting.”

Voice of: Sister of Alida Asencio (Translated)

“We want justice, we want justice. Why are there laws when there is no justice? We don’t want any more violence. These youths today, please work so you can eat. If you want to steal the money, steal the money but don’t take life. We are very afraid now.”

As we said, those interviews were conducted just before Acensio died. Police confirm that three persons have been detained for questioning in what is now a double murder.

  1. WTH? says:

People who commit such crimes are no good to society. Death penalty is needed

  2. H@tari says:

I agree, hang them all . . . but the liberal politicians, priests, & preachers won’t let that happen. Sending them to Hattieville just gives them advanced degrees in worthlessness and crime. We have evil souls among us and we have to eliminate the threat post haste. Education and returning family values is the only key to overcoming this plague . . . but first we have to kill a few snakes!

  3. 2cents says:

This needs major help, too much crime and no justice.
