72 year old is man is hospitalized after he was mauled by 4 Rottweilers

Seventy-two year old McKesson Garrett remains hospitalized recovering from injuries sustained when he was attacked by four vicious Rottweilers. Garnett went to visit his friend, Leroy Woods, who lives at mile four on the Phillip Goldson Highway. But the friendly visit almost turned deadly for Garrett who was attacked when he was welcomed by Woods last Saturday afternoon at around four-thirty. The dogs came bolting at him and ripped up his face and elsewhere on his body before he could get assistance from neighbors. He spoke today to News Five from his bed at the K.H.M.H.

McKesson Garrett, Attacked by Dogs

“When I look, he has four dogs there; they’re vicious and he can’t control them. So I was turning around to get back on the road to leave and he opened the gate to let me in and when he opened the gate, four Rottweilers, they rushed me and they…I mean they mauled me in my head, my nose, my back, my arm, my legs….everything. I rushed into a pool of water that he had there as a defense but they were trying to drown me in that water. So it’s only by the grace of the good Lord that I am still here. And I want to send a message; the reason for this interview is to send a message to people with these vicious dogs; that they get a control of them or locked them up or something mien. But this can’t continue to happen because it is ridiculous, totally ridiculous and I do not understand. Right now today, I should be out there celebrating my birthday today, but here I am. The injuries are very, very serious. And I can’t continue like this. I fought my way through, I fought my way through. I fought my way for my life because like I said, they were even trying to drown me. I fought my way for my life mien. The owner Mister Leroy Woods, he couldn’t help me. It was the neighbors that came across while it was happening and they came to my assistance. That’s how I got away from them. But it was, every time I think about it, I start to go into a trance because like I said, I could have been killed.”

“Visibly on your face, I can see the lot of stitches. How many stitches did you get?”

“I can’t even count them. They are all over my head. I can’t even count them.”

“What are the doctors saying as to your condition right now?”

“It is serious. I have to go into surgery right now for another procedure on my arm here. But I can’t go into surgery until they build up my blood because they are saying that my blood is low. But the message that I want to send is that these owners with these vicious dogs, they think that oh I have this kind of dog and you hear them boast about it, but they need to do something about it because you know the guy from down south that got killed the other day, I have a friend of mine whose brother got killed the same way and you are not hearing about these things. So that’s why I want to bring it out that let them understand that if they can’t keep those dogs under control, they need to get rid of them.”

Garrett says that after recuperating, he will be getting advice from an attorney to seek legal recourse.
