B.S.C.F.A. Discusses Missing Money

Alfredo Ortega

Between the end of 2012 and April 2014, several employees of the B.S.C.F.A. collaborated to steal money from the association. They did it by targeting the payroll system and paying themselves increased salaries. It was a prolonged scheme, to the tune of about seventy-eight thousand dollars stolen in just over a year. On Sunday, the B.S.C.F.A. informed the general assembly about the theft, for which at least three employees have been fired. According to B.S.C.F.A. Committee of Management Vice-Chairman Alfredo Ortega, they’ve recovered six thousand of the missing money, and are taking all necessary steps to get it all back.

“In any place whenever funds are misused it is not taken lightly by the members. I think that we have come with a clear presentation to them based on the audit report that we have. There will always be people who will jump here and there based on certain things that are there, but we are coming clear to them. We are not hiding anything. We have presented the names of the people who were involved and what we are looking forward to is to recuperate the funds that were not used properly from the people who are involved in the situation.”

“We understand that three of the employees have already repaid their share of what was stolen, and the other three have yet to do so?”

Alfredo Ortega

“Yes. We have three of them who have already repaid. It was the smaller numbers in the audit report. So three of them have cleared their names…three of them, and there are others who have already committed to how they will be paying. It’s only three persons that legal action will be taken against.”

Reporter

“Does that absolve them of all wrongdoing? Are they forgiven? Have they been fired? What’s their status?”

Alfredo Ortega

“Well they have been fired from the organization based on the lawyer’s advice…we have fired these people and legal action will be taken against them.”

The theft was discovered after the BSCFA commissioned a special audit in June 2014.
