Vehicle of Belmopan Mayor stolen from under his nose

Simeon Lopez

Traditionally vehicle thefts occur overnight or when their owners park them in isolated locations for a prolonged period of time. But that wasn’t the case on Tuesday, when a government vehicle issued to Mayor Simeon Lopez from Belmopan was stolen, right outside City Hall. Today, Lopez told us that he arrived at work just before one-thirty and parked his 2008 Mitsubishi Nativa SUV in front of the administration building at City Hall in the Capital. When he came out a couple hours after, it was gone.

Simeon Lopez, Mayor, Belmopan

“About four o’clock I said I had to go out to do some business and when I stepped outside, usually from within the office I can see the tail of the vehicle, but I did not see anything. I did not say anything, I just stepped outside and got under the canopy and realized that the vehicle was not there. It was then that I realized that I had the key and I said it can’t be Alzheimer’s. I know I came to work in the vehicle and I parked it here and it is nowhere to be found. So I sounded the alarm and we called in the police immediately. The police arrived about four-fifteen and they took some minor statements at the time and then they rushed back—that is the CIB—and I started asking questions around the compound and that’s where we are. We got lead of who got into the vehicle and drove off with it. That person is detained, but is not cooperating with police. So that is where we are at. There is one key witness, but unfortunately she is a minor and that is what the police are working on to see if they can get the parents to ask her to give a statement. I guess with everything happening, you can’t blame them for giving statements. So it is just a matter of—I don’t know if they can provide any witness protection or anything. I don’t think that has ever been done.”

Police continue to investigate the unusual and very brazen theft of the government vehicle.

Late one night a mugger wearing a ski mask jumped into a path of a well-dressed man and stuck a gun in his ribs “give me your money,” he demanded. Indignant, the affluent man replied, “you can’t do this – I am a politician!” “In that case,” replied the mugger, “give me MY money.”

Though it is funny it still speaks to the fact that criminals in this country have ZERO respect for authority which makes me as a private citizen sleepless at night because I know that I am not afforded the same level of protection from the police as these abnormal persons, which by the way swings both ways because these days we need protect from them for the criminals and from the police themselves.

Too bad it wasn’t his personal vehicle the Nissan Rogue but even so a certain Chinese business man would have been more than happy to replace it and would have stocked it with more free liquor too. Gibson black government issued Toyota 4 Runner needs to be stolen too that way his daughter won’t have it to joyride with her friends and go drinking at the river with the music blaring and yes I have the pictures to prove it which by the way I will be posting on a social media site along with others so the normal people of this country can see how their tax dollars really work.

2008 Mitsubishi Nativa. The Corozal mayor has a 2014 4×4.
I was worried we might have an honest politician in Belmopan.
Reading more I found out how corrupt he is.
