Elderly Man Knocked Down And Killed In Belize City

Sixty-seven-year-old Mohan Thani, a Belizean businessman of Indian descent, was knocked down and killed on Wednesday evening as he attempted to cross the Phillip Goldson Highway near Belize Electricity Limited.  Shortly after four o’clock, police visited the location where they saw the elderly man lying on the highway suffering from massive head and body injuries.  According to twenty-six-year-old Alexander Mejiah, he was driving a Mitsubishi Galant along the stretch a few minutes earlier when he accidentally hit Thani while crossing the highway.   The resident of Barrack Road was rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries around seven o’clock.  Mejiah, a maintenance worker of five and a half miles Phillip Goldson Highway, has since been detained pending charges.
