3 men are finally arraigned for the murder of Ramon Cervantes Senior

At exactly five thirty this evening, three men were escorted to the Orange Walk Magistrate’s Court for formal arraignment. These men are believed to be part of a criminal gang which kidnapped and murdered seventy-one year old Ramon Cervantes Sr. Since Monday Orange Walk residents have crowded the Magistrate Court surrounds, and despite the lateness of the hour they were there today. Twenty-two year old Noe Gonzalez, twenty-eight year old Mateo Pott and nineteen year old Angel Antonio Cardenas were escorted to court under heavy guard. Inside they were all charged jointly for the murder of Ramon Cervantes Sr., and for keeping an unlicensed twelve gauge shotgun and five unlicensed twelve gauge shells. No plea was taken from the three men and they were remanded to the Belize Central Prison until August thirteenth. The men appeared alone, but the man considered the ringleader of the gang, Manuel Castillo, was named on the charge sheet even though he is currently on the run.  Of note is that two Policemen are reportedly detained for involvement in the kidnapping and murder. They were not taken to court this evening.

So, why haven’t the policemen who are allegedly involved in the kidnapping and murder been arraigned? Has anyone heard of accessory murder? They are as guilty as the others and worst because they are sworn to uphold the law. Also, has anyone tried to connect all of them to the murder of the woman whose body that they found nearby? Dang, it’s sad when looking at the quality of our law enforcement officials in our country from top to bottom. I bet I can count on one hand the officers on that entire force who have an Associates much less a Bachelor’s degree. I’ve said time and time again, send folks to our prominent schools and encourage vocations in law, teaching, nursing, firefighting; all the essential careers that would make country advance. However, you have to offer attractive salaries and scholarships. can’t go anywhere when you’re paying a police officer $500-$600 per month and expect him to hitchhike his way to and from the villages to work t ungodly hours. More of this will continue to happen. Maybe if Dean and his cronies would stop pillaging and robbing the country and put the money to good use then we’d have a better Belize. However, I think there’s a better chance for us to see the second coming of Jesus before that happens.

I am so saddened by the senseless killing of Mr. Cervantes. This is a man who was working for an honest living and to be killed so brutally for what and by so called police officers. It does not seen that they got anything from this killing, all this was for nothing?

The government really need to bring back harsher punishment for murder, this is a case that warrants the death penalty. Bring it back.
