17 year old is killed in the City

Myron Smith

Three days, three murders in the city…The killing of Malcolm Wagner and Samuel Miguel was followed by another homicide in the dangerous streets of south side Belize City. Shortly after eight on Monday night, a minor, Myron Smith, was gunned down on Brown Street in the Lake Independence. Smith was riding along with two other persons when the gunman targeted him. Injured to the chest and back, Smith tried to run across the basketball court, but collapsed and died before being transported to the K.H.M.H. The two other persons riding with him managed to escape unhurt. In processing the crime scene, police found three expended shells, but they are yet to determine the motive for the murder. Duane Moody reports.

Less than five minutes after, at least four gun shots rang out…seventeen year old Myron Smith was hit by gunfire as he and two others rode on separate bicycles on Brown Street, just a stone’s throw away from his house on Giles Street. Around eight on Monday night, at least one gunman approached and fired several shots at Smith; he was hit to the left side of the chest and to the upper right side of the back. The blood stains on the basketball court show that he ran for his life, but collapsed behind a house in front of the field.  Hearing that her cousin was shot, Ishaida Brooks ran to the scene; she says he died in her arms.
